Which are the best 40, 42 inch TVs under 500 dollars?

Many asked what are the best LCD TVs under 500 dollars?

As a matter of fact, it is very hard to find a major brand LCD TV with very good image quality under  500. After a lot of research, I managed to find two LCD TVs to fit this bill:

The first one is Sharp LC-42SB48UT 42-inch TV.  It  is on sale at Dell for $449.
This is a 42-inch LCD TV with full HD 1080p resolution and 60Hz refresh rate in an elegant glossy black design.  The dynamic contrast ratio is 26,000:1.  Connectivity is very good with 4 HDMI inputs.  Many reviews say this TV has a very good picture quality, relative accurate color and deep black levels. A recent review at televisioninfo.com also compared it with The Samsung LN40C630, Panasonic TC-P42S2 and The Sony KDL40EX400.  Please note that the sale price of $449 is a very good deal (MSRP $899.99).

The second one is Sanyo DP42840 42-inch 1080p 60Hz LCD TV. It is on sale at Walmart for $498. I want to say that I am not associated with Walmart and will not receive any ads payment from Walmart too.  I listed the link here only for the convenience of our readers.  The dynamic contrast ratio is 4,000:1, which is lower than the Sharp LC-42SB48UT and there are only three HDMI inputs.  The DP42840 was selected by consumer reports as the best buy.  However I can not give the details of their test results. This is an older TV model.

Comparing with these two sets, I would go with the Sharp LC-42SB48UT.  However, both sets do not have any Internet content.  If you want to spend less than $500 but still prefer to have Internet content, you have to settle with the 32-inch models, such as the Sony Bravia KDL-32EX308.
