Toshiba 55UL610 review: 55-inch 3D TV with Net TV and WiFi

The Toshiba 55UL610 is Toshiba’s top of the line 55-inch 3D TV, featuring Toshiba’s new Metal Blade Design with Illusion Stand, Dynamic 3D, a new 1080p resolution Quantum BLACK Panel with Fine Local Dimming and Crystal Coat, 480Hz ClearScan technology to reduce motion blur, built-in Wi-Fi, Net TV with Yahoo! Widgets and a built-in sub-woofer speaker, in a very thin matte finish plastic black bezel of only half inch.

Toshiba utilized the CEVO engine in the 3D TV models both the active and passive 3D TVs.  According to Toshiba:

“…the CEVO Engine, which includes three key 3D technologies that set Toshiba 3D apart:

• TriVector™ 2D to 3D Conversion: With TriVector, consumers can watch all of their favorite 2D TV programming, 2D Blu-ray Discs®, and personal camcorder movies in high quality 3D.  Consumers can even view their 2D digital still pictures in 3D and play their favorite 2D video games in 3D.
• 3D Resolution+™: 3D Resolution+ technology automatically upconverts and sharpens 3D sources that are not native full HD – such as top/bottom or left/right formats – to create a consistently high quality 3D experience.
• 3D Cross Talk Canceller: For Dynamic 3D models, 3D Cross Talk Canceller technology mitigates any cross talk ghosting to create the clearest possible dynamic 3D images.”

Net TV is Toshiba’s version of Internet TV that streams the premium Internet apps such as Netflix, amazon VOD, Vudu and Hulu plus,  in addition to free apps such as  Yahoo! widgets and YouTube.

Comparing with the TL515 series, the UL610 series is a 3D active TV not a passive 3D TV.  This means that the 65UL610 series needs active 3D glasses which are costly and heavy.  Although Toshiba called this series a Cinema 3D TV, please be  not confused with Vizio theater 3D or LG cinema 3D TV, which are  passive 3D TVs.

The UL610 Cinema Series will be available in 46-, 55- and 65-inch screen sizes.  Most models will be available in April 2011. The prices are not available at this time. I will keep your posted.
