Consumer-reports released the 2008 most reliable cars in 16 categories. The Japanese automakers, Toyota and Honda make most of the reliable cars and European cars such Mercedes-Benz are among the least reliable cars.

The following are the most reliable cars in ten categories which are at least 50% better than average:

Family Cars:

  • Toyota Prius,
  • Honda Accord (4-cyl., 2007),
  • Ford Fusion(v6, AWD),
  • Honda Accord (v6)

Upscale cars:

  • Aura TSX,
  • Lexus IS (RWD)

Luxury cars:

  • Lexus GS450h (hybrid),
  • Infiniti M35 (RWD)

Small cars:

  • Toyota Yaris Hatchback,
  • Honda Fit,
  • Toyota Yaris sedan,
  • Toyota corolla

Coupes and convertibles:

  • Lexus Sc,
  • BMW 328i

Sport:

  • Porsche Cayman

Minivan

  • Toyota Sienna less than 50% ca 35% better than average

Small SUV

  • Honda Element
  • Mitsubishi Outlander
  • Subaru Forester
  • Toyota RAV4

Midsized SUVS
