Cnet editor’s take on Nikon D90.
Unlike Nikon D90, Canon 50D (preorder at amazon for $1399.95 body only) does not have movie mode. But Canon 50D has a 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor instead of 12.9 megapixel sensor on Nikon D90. Canon D50 has a faster shooting speed with 6.3 fps instead of 4.5 fps, higher max shutter speed of 1/8000 instead of 1/4000 on Nikon D90, higher ISO100-3200, expandable to 12800 verse Nikon D90 IS0 200-3200 range (100-6400 expanded).

Comparing with the above two cameras, Canon XSi (Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black) $663.88 at amazon) is a more affordable camera without movie mode and with slower speed (3.5fps). But according to many reviews, Canon does produce high quality images.
Which is the one for you?
If you don’t have a lot of Canon lenses and the obvious choice is Nikon D90 for the HD movie mode. If you want to buy Nikon D90, here are some best lenses for Nikon D90. If you have a lot of Canon lenses and care more about the low light (need high ISO) and sports photography ( high speed), Canon 50D is the one for you. If you are a Canon owner and want a second camera body as the back up or if you want a more affordable digital SLR, Canon XSi is the one for you.
