The best deals on electronics such as LCD TVs and many others are normally offered on black Friday and after Thanksgiving.  It is the time to do your home work and decide what  to buy, which brand is good and look for deals.  In addition, some simple tips could save you a lot.

  • You can save buying online for lower prices, no tax and sometimes with free shipping.  Online shopping becomes more popular than ever. People are more and more comfortable buying online from reputable online retailers  such as Amazon, Crutchfield, B&H, buydig etc, even when buy large items such as LCD TVs.
  • Avoid extended warranty and unnecessary accessories.  Retailers always get high margin profits from accessories and extended warranties.  According to many electronic experts, electronics normally broken down within three months of usage if they ever break down.  The manufacture warranty is more than adequate in most cases.  In addition, you can always take advantage of free extended warranties from credit cards such as American express or from Costco store.  From my personal experience, I have never used any extended warranty from credit cards.  Electronics advance so quickly that if the product breaks down in a couple of years, it is better to buy the new and better product at lower price.
  • You don’t have to buy consumer “best buy”, or editor’s choice from cnet.com.  Many times, a lot of products are very similar in quality.  The best ranked products always carry a price premium which you don’t have to pay.  Look for deals and detailed reviews and not the numerical ranking.  Try to balance the expert reviews and consumer reviews.  I found many very useful user reviews on amazon.
  • Always ask for a lower price or discount before you buy. You might get extra discounts in many stores if you ask for. This is especially true when there are few people buying in the store.
