Portable auto GPS

Portable auto GPS units are the ultimate GPS to use. Auto GPS has voice and screen turn by turn directions with large and bright screen. You can get real time traffic information if subscribe the service. There are many choices from as less as $100. However, you have to carry it with you in addition to your cell phone. If only use it occasionally, it is not as convenient as GPS cell phones or iPhone 3G.

iPhone 3G

Since you always carry your iPhone with you, you don’t have to carry another GPS unit. It is convenient to search directions from Google map and you don’t have to rely on cell phone signal to locate your location with GPS chip in iPhone 3G. However, iPhone has no voice turn by turn directions until iPhone 3.0 coming out in July. The screen is not as big as the portable GPS. Battery consumes very quickly with GPS function and need charging when using GPS function.

GPS cell phones have spoken and on-screen turn-by-turn directions, traffic info, and a point-of-interest menu. You can subscribe on a monthly bases for about $10 per month, or by daily bases for $3 a day. Maps will be updated consistently. But the screen is hard to see and the speakers are not as loud as portable auto GPS. Long term use means you have to pay a lot for monthly fee. You also need cell phone signal to use this function.
