Best LCD TVs under $500

For $500 or less, there are not a lot of choices.  After searching through consumer reports and users’ reviews, the following are my recommendations:

Vizio 32″ 720p Class LCD HDTV – Black (VW32LHDTV40A) ($449)

This set has very good picture quality and quite wide viewing angle.  However, the sound is somewhat below average.  Since most families have additional speakers, you can always use external speakers to boast the sound quality.

Samsung LN26B460 26-inch 720p LCD

This is a great LCD TV at affordable price. It received excellent customer reviews on amazon.

Sony KDL-26L5000

Sony Bravia KDL-26L5000 26-inch LCD TV is Sony’s entry level LCD TV featuring 720p resolution, dynamic contrast ratio of 13,000:1, three HDMI inputs, two component and one PC input, Bravia link modules and Bravia sync which can give you one touch access and control of all your compatible home theatre device including select Sony Handycam camcorders. Consumer Reports rated Sony KDL-26L5000 among the best 26-inch LCD TVs with top picture quality and good sound. The only problem is the relative narrow viewing angle.
