For indoor wedding, very limited light is available. Fast lenses, at least f/2.8, are required. lenses with image stabilization are even better.

Wide Angle lenses are necessary for group photos especially in small rooms. For full frame camera, the best wide angle lens is Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM. For small sensor cameras such as canon 40D, Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is the most preferred wide angle lens.

Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM is regarded as the best standard lens for small sensor cameras. Although this lens is not L lens, the optical quality is excellent.

Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L and Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS are the best standard lenses for full frame cameras such as Canon 5D. Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM is definitely the best telephoto lens for both small sensor and full frame cameras.

Good portrait lenses are very useful in wedding photography too. Some of the best portrait lenses are Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM, Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L, and Canon EF 135mm f/2 LUSM.

For photographers who favors only prime lenses, a three lens prime kit with be Canon EF 28mm f/1.8, Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM or the best Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM and Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM or the best Canon EF 85mm f/1.2 II USM.
