Best canon telephoto lenses

The most useful telephoto lens for Canon DSLRs is Canon EF 70-200mm. There are four different versions: Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS, 70-200mm f/4L, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS or 70-200mm f/2.8L. It is almost always a very difficult decision to decide which one to buy. If money is really tight, it is easy to choose the Canon 70-200mm f/4L, which is a very sharp lens and may be the best value L lens. If money is not an issue, which one to buy?
It all depends on how you use it. For people who use it mostly indoor, such as wedding photography, indoor portrait and indoor sports photography, the best choice is Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM. This lens is sharp with three stop image stabilization. You may say that IS is not useful for sports photography. But as a walk around telephoto lens, it is always nice to have IS.
If you mainly use it for outdoors, Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS is one to go. The lens is extremely sharp with four stop image stabilization. This lens is much lighter ( 1.7 lb) than Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS (3.24 lb). Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS is the prefect lens to take with you when traveling. This is exactly the one I need on my Canon 40D.
