The Samsung UN55D8000 is the successor of the last year’s popular UN55C8000 3D LED TV with many improvements.  The image quality of the this year’s model is even better than the UN55C8000 with Samsung’s new Micro Dimming Pro technology that allows the more precise control of the back-light and so that picture has more uniformity. The samsung UN55D8000 has deep black levels, great contrast and accurate colors according to many reviews.  The new Smart TV platform also has a universal search and web browser. The Vizio XVT553SV 55″ TruLED LED TV is a great LED TV with extensive features at a budget price.  It features VIA-Vizio Internet Apps, Built-in WiFi 802.11n Dual Band, a 240Hz refresh rate, and a 10,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

CNET gave the Vizio XVT553SV a 4/5 (excellent). The LG Infina 55LE8500 55-inch Full HD 1080p LED HDTV features Full array LED backlights with local dimming; a 240Hz refresh rate; Netcast internet connectivity for access to Netflix, Skype, Napster, Youtube, and VUDU on-demand video service; DLNA compatibility for music, photos, and video; optional WIFI, and THX certification. The LG 55LE8500 was rated as excellent at CNET and “produces among the deepest shades of black of any TV; superb shadow detail; exceedingly accurate color. . .” according to review of LG 55LE8500 at CNET.

Best 55-inch LED TV with Internet content: Samsung UN55C6500 120Hz LED HDTV

The Samsung UN55C6500 55-inch LED HDTV features the Touch-of-Color Bezel design, LED Edge lighting, AutoMotion 120Hz, updated Internet content, and Samsung Apps.  It has great picture & sound quality, but the off angle performance is relatively poor; read more on the UN55C6500 here.

Best 55-inch budget LED HDTV with Internet content: Vizio VF552XVT

The Vizio VF552XVT 55-inch 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV features TruLED direct type LED backlit technology; a 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio; Vizio Internet Apps with 802.11n Dual-Band Wireless Networking; and a customized Bluetooth remote with slide out QWERTY keypad. Connectivity includes 4 HDMI inputs on the back and one HDMI on the side.
